The important thing about this community is that we are a group of solopreneurs seeking connection both socially and professionally and bring energy, care, and respect to the group. Please read through the community commitments below, indicate your agreement to them, and you will be directed to a page to become a member.

Community Agreements

This community matters to me. It matters that we all share a collective understanding of what we’re doing here and what the expectations are. That we’re consciously and intentionally committing to the same thing. This agreement is meant to outline what’s expected and what you are agreeing to by joining this community.

I’m sure there is all sorts of legalese that would make this enforceable and likely quite scary – that’s not my goal. This is an agreement, a common understanding, between you and me, about what we’re doing.

We are whole people

We are not just the job we do! It can be so tempting to start relationships by finding out “what we do” and following that trail. But we are whole, complex, intriguing humans. Bring your whole self, all your parts, and invite all those same complex parts from others. Let’s be in relationship around more than our work – let’s learn each other deeply, be playful, be curious, and be open.

Personal responsibility

Think of this in part as you get what you give. Gatherings are designed to bring you together with others in the community so you can interact, have great conversations, get to know each other, and strengthen the community. You play a crucial role, however, in having a fulfilling experience in the community. Reaching out to other members to continue to connect and build relationships is part of what will make this a worthwhile space to be in, not simply going along for the ride and wondering why you haven’t met your new BFF. Think also of this in another part as there is no lifeguard on duty. If something hard comes up in conversation or in relationship, your responsibility is to engage with others involved instead of taking it “to management” to sort out on your behalf. If requested, I will engage with impacted parties if, after initial conversations, there is not resolution.

Distinguishing intent and impact

It’s easy to say “Oh yes, let’s just assume good intent on everyone’s part”…right up until the point someone feels hurt and then we jump to assumptions. I will ask this community to be willing to be in conversation with each other around the impact a conversation or situation might have had (please do share with the other party if something said or done has caused hurt for you), AND please come to the conversation first with an assumption of good intent, even if it created painful impact.

Transparency

I want this community to be a place where we’re clear and straightforward with one another, even if that means sacrificing some of the comfort of anonymity or privacy that we’re commonly used to (but often interferes with feeling like we really know what’s going on). I’m committed to talking through what’s going on with the community and I ask you to do the same with me.

Creating respect

Respect has revealed itself to be much like common sense in that we might not all share exactly the same definition of what it is and how it looks. So our commitment around respect is to be in conversation with others, asking what respect is to them and sharing what it is for us, so we can treat each other with the respect we desire.

No solicitation or promotion

This space is for connection and building relationships. You will certainly meet and connect with folks that you want to have business conversations with. I support all of this. What will not be accepted is promoting your own products and services to the community broadly or in conversations where it is unsolicited. Adding members to your emailing list (without an explicit request and permission from them) is also prohibited. I’m relying on you to know that line. The line between speaking generally about something you’re working on and talking about it in such a manner that it could sound like advertising your product or service (displaying a product visually, providing links to your product or service, etc.). You know the difference, and I’m holding us all capable of relating to each other without advertising.

Liability limitations

By being a part of this community, you recognize that members’ words and actions do not represent the community as a whole and I do not assume responsibility for member conduct. I will work to ensure the community is a place where members can show up as themselves fully while still respecting other members. Conflicts will be addressed by impacted parties and, if requested, myself.

Changes and updates

I hope to create a culture of experimentation and feedback so the community can constantly evolve and grow to serve the members. Especially as things are beginning, I anticipate shifts and changes along the way. Members will be alerted to changes (including to these agreements) and continued engagement in the community will indicate ongoing commitment to the agreements and expectations.
